A m'en Pierro

A poem about love, a proposal and marriage, by 'Nannon.' Love conquers all. First published in The Star of June 18, 1881, which provided Guernsey French vocabulary help for readers who might need it. J'en peux ombiaï chu jour la,
La seraie ou j'nou pourmeniment
Nous s'assiévis l'long du barra,
J'vou d'mande si j'nou entr'aimêment,
I twistait l's'amarrent d'men d'vanté,
I t'nait ma main adré étrainte,
Et d'belles s'histoires i'men conté,
Mais j'c'menchais à avé d la crainte.

L'soleil était bientôt couochi,
Pierro, vraiement vint en pensaie,
Mon pere m'traché, était guergi,
Ma mere criait, était génaie,
Se fait Pierro, "o 'tu Nannon,
Tu n'sait pas combien que j't'aime,
I faudra que j'en finissons,
Sans courre à la pertantaine."

Pour mé, je s'avais qu'és qui s'env'nait,
I créyait m'prendre pour surprinse,
Et dans me'ssiers il y r'gardait,
Comme s'il avait étaï un Prince.
J'avais pensaï de dire Nannin,
Mais de dire oui, j'avais envie
Et i'm gagni le long du ch'm'n,
J'l'aimais autant comme ma vie.

Un biaux matin nou fut mariaï,
Auve tous nos gens en compagnie
Et j'continuon a s'entre aimaï,
Mon père, ma mere, n'font pu l'avie.
Et vou j'annes gens, faisiat comme non
Sans perdre terjous vos seraies
Par en finis par une union,
Qui pourrait s'faire pour des annaies.
