4 July 1944: Von Euch, fuer Euch, Kameraden!

Von Euch—fuer Euch, Kameraden!

Die folgenden vier Gedichte entnehmen wir einem Gedichtband, den Oberleutnant Burkert zum Inselwett bewerb einrichte und der mit einem Preis ausgezeichnet werde.

GUERNSEY

Schaenmende Welle,
Steiniger Strand.
Glitzernde Helle,
Felsiges Land.

Tobende Stuerme,
Brandungsgewog’,
Wolkengestuerme,
Gischtender Sog.

Dann wieder Stille,
Freundliche Sicht,
Durch wolkige Huelle
Sonnenstral bricht.

Here's a literal translation:

Shimmering wave
Stony strand
Glittering brightness
Cliffs all around

Raging storm
Towering surf
Stormy clouds
Frothing undertow

Then comes the stillness
Friendly sight
Through a bright gap in the clouds
A sunbeam breaks through.
