Guernsey under German Rule
The official launch of Guernsey under German Rule (2nd ed.), an authoratitive account of the German Occupation, published in 1936 shortly after the death of its author, the Librarian of the Priaulx Library, Ralph Durand. Durand lived in Guernsey throughout the war. He was treated with wary respect by the German officers, and talked at length with them on many occasions, these discussions being reflected in the book. At great danger to himself he placed copies of the clandestine newsheet GUNS in pre-agreed books on the Priaulx Library shelves, under the noses of the German officers who visited the Library. The book has been reformatted and reprinted to a high quality in both hard and softback and copies will be available to purchase on the night. The launch will be attended by Steven Foote of Blue Ormer publishing and refreshments will be available.
6 p.m. at the Priaulx Library. All welcome.
